MAR
Market Abuse Regulation
Definition
The EU regulation establishing a comprehensive framework to combat market abuse, including insider dealing, unlawful disclosure of inside information, and market manipulation. MAR applies to financial instruments traded on regulated markets, MTFs, and OTFs, as well as related spot commodity contracts and benchmarks.
Regulatory Context
MAR replaced the earlier Market Abuse Directive (MAD) in 2016 and is directly applicable across the EU. It introduced the concept of insider lists, requirements for managers' transactions reporting (PDMR), and obligations for issuers to disclose inside information.
