TCF

Treating Customers Fairly

Definition

A UK regulatory principle requiring firms to demonstrate that they deliver fair outcomes for consumers throughout the product lifecycle, from design and marketing through to after-sales service and complaints handling. TCF was a precursor to the more prescriptive Consumer Duty.

Regulatory Context

TCF was a principles-based approach established by the FCA (then FSA) with six consumer outcomes. While the Consumer Duty has now superseded TCF as the primary conduct framework, the underlying expectation of fair treatment remains central to UK financial regulation.
