PRIIPs
Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products
Definition
The EU regulation requiring manufacturers and distributors of packaged retail investment products and insurance-based investment products to produce a Key Information Document (KID). The KID provides standardised pre-contractual information on costs, risks, and potential returns to enable retail investors to make informed comparisons.
Regulatory Context
The PRIIPs KID has faced criticism over its risk and performance methodology. Revisions implemented in 2023 addressed some concerns, and UCITS funds were brought into scope after a transitional exemption that allowed them to use the KIID instead.
